Sabah is one of thirteen member states of Malaysia. It is found on the north portion of the island of Borneo.

It's the 2nd biggest state in the country after Sarawak, which it borders on its south-west. It also shares a border with the province of East Kalimantan of Indonesia in the south. Despite its standing as a Malaysian state, Sabah remains a contested territory ; the Philippines has a quiescent claim over lots of the eastern part of the territory. The capital of Sabah is Kota Kinabalu, formerly known as Jesselton.

Sabah is sometimes known as "Sabah, negeri di bawah bayu", that means "Sabah, the land below the wind", due to its location slightly to the south of the typhoon-prone area round the Philippines.
