Currency

The unit of currency is the Malaysian Ringgit indicated as RM, which is equivalent to 100 cents. Coins are issued in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 sen and RM1. Currency notes are in RM1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100.

Currency Exchange

All commercial banks are authorised foreign exchange dealers; major hotels are only licensed to buy or accept foreign currency in the form of notes and traveller's cheques. You can almost change any currency with any money changers in town or shopping center.

Credit/Debit Cards and ATMs

American Express, Diners Club, MasterCard and Visa are widely accepted.

Traveller's Cheques

Accepted by all banks, hotels and large department stores.

Mon-Fri 0915-1630 (some branches open on Saturdays). Banks in Kelantan, Kedah and  Terengganu open Sun-Thurs 0915-1600/1630
